Reasons for this Walk

The Coastal Path provides us with an exceptional hiking route which goes through fourteen towns on the Costa del Sol.

The reasons why someone should have this walk, the first of its kind, depend on each person but it will definitely seem interesting for everyone.

Ten Reasons for this Walk

1. It gives us the opportunity to visit some of the fourteen towns which can be found on the Costa del Sol. Most of these municipalities have their own Tourist Information Centre, important cultural heritage and offer excellent accommodation, bars and restaurants.
2. You can walk along promenades and boardwalks; see beautiful places and unforgettable sites during your journey from one town to another.
3. Enjoy the beaches, some of which have the Blue Flag certification given by the EU, as well as cliffs, restaurants and other tourism buildings along the shore.
4. You can do varied water sports, and combine hiking with cycling.
5. You will be able to see some extraordinary natural beauty spots.
6. Be aware that this area is historically important as there are sites with almost 2000-year-old ruins, and fortifications used by varied civilizations.

The weather conditions on the Costa del Sol are very pleasant. The annual average temperature is at 19 degrees Celsius (66.2 degrees Fahrenheit) with more than 300 sunny days a year.

There are hundreds of beaches, among which you can find the one that suits you. The average water temperature is at 18 ºC (64.4 ºF), though it reaches 25 ºC (77 ºF) in summer, above all at the end of July and at the beginning of August. During this week you can enjoy the warm sea, while the rest of the year it is a bit colder, which can also be positive as you can take a refreshing dip in August, when temperatures can easily reach 45 ºC (113 ºF).

The Alboran Sea, a border between Europe and Africa, the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, is in the far west of the Mediterranean. It is surrounded by the Baetic System in the north and the Rif, Moroccan mountain range, in the south. This sea surface currents move east, dragging the water from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea, while the underwater currents flow westwards and take salty and warm Mediterranean water into the Atlantic Ocean. The east wind, called Levante, also influences the weather as it blows west.
